Mosel Riesling Rotschiefer 2017

Sorentberg

€21.31

The Riesling grapes are processed in the traditional manner. Half of the wine ferments and stays for about 6 months on the fine lees in large Slavonian oak barrels, the other half in steel. The characteristics of the soil give a pleasant and delicate spicing to the wine and mineral vein accompanied by a kicking acidity.

Description

The two young winemakers Tobias Treis (Reil / Mosel) and Ivan Giovanett (Neumarkt / Südtirol), after 25 years of fallow, have re-cultivated the now almost forgotten single vineyard Reiler Sorentberg. The steep southern slope is located in a side valley of the Moselle and is famous for its long-standing wines. The red slate of Wissenbach is found only there and gives this Riesling its characteristic spice. The Sorentberg is one of a kind with a total area of 9.48 hectares. Its terroir is an interaction of many factors that form a remarkable whole: 100 percent of the southern slope, extreme gradient with an average gradient of 80 to 110 percent, cool climate, because the mountain is in a well ventilated side valley on the Moselle river, unique soil type, the so-called Wissenbach slate (red slate with inclusions of shells), unique in the whole Moselle.
